Spyglass Designs' opal jewelry is handcrafted in earrings, necklaces, and bracelets set in 14k solid gold, 14k gold-filled, and sterling silver. Opal holds water in its structure and diffracts light between microscopic silica spheres, which is where the play of color comes from — no two stones flash the same way.

We carry several kinds here. Peruvian opal is the soft opaque pink and baby blue, gentle rather than fiery. Ethiopian Welo flashes green, pink and blue from a translucent body. Black fire opal is the dramatic one, throwing red, blue and green at once. A few pieces are opal set in a resin base, which is how very thin natural opal is made wearable.
