Goldstone is not a stone at all, and that's rather the point. It was invented in seventeenth-century Venice, where glassmakers suspended fine copper particles in molten glass and cooled it slowly enough for the metal to crystallize inside. The result glitters from within rather than off the surface, and no natural mineral does quite the same thing. It's been made the same way ever since.
