I've loved rocks since I was a kid. I had a rock collection then, and I still have one. Gemstones followed naturally. I started out making earrings for friends, they asked for more, and it grew from there into Spyglass Designs in 2010.

What I make comes from what I actually want to wear. I have a jewelry box full of pieces I never put on: too showy, too heavy, or gifts that just weren't me. I didn't want to add to anyone else's pile. So everything I design is lightweight and easy to wear, the kind of thing you put on in the morning and forget about until someone compliments it.

Good jewelry shouldn't look like it's trying. A pair of amethyst drops should look right with jeans and a T-shirt, at the office, and out to dinner. If a design needs a lot of extra sparkle to get noticed, I'd rather leave it alone.

The stones matter most to me, but I'm not chasing museum pieces. The finest stones cost more than most of us want to spend on everyday earrings, and the cheapest ones look it. I look for the ones in between: good color, a clean cut, and a fair price. I'm picky, and what ends up in your earrings is something I'd wear myself.

For many of the stones I also offer a simulated version. You get a similar look for less, and it's always clearly labeled so you know exactly what you're buying.

Every piece is made by hand. I ship within a day, shipping is free, and most orders arrive in one to three days, tucked into a little colored organza pouch.
